doggerfisher is delighted to present a solo show by the Swiss artist Franziska Furter.
For her exhibition, Furter has made a site-specific drawing, entitled Still . . . An intense panorama of blackness achieved through the pencil application of layers of graphite, gives way to an explosion of fireworks. In Summerwine, a further pencil on paper work, a curtain of Virginia Creeper rises and falls as it travels along the length of wall.
Furter’s work toys with what is obscured and what is seemingly transparent in our ways of seeing and viewing: how darkness is revealed and how our viewpoint can be so deceptively turned upside down.
Franziska Furter (born 1972, Zurich) trained at Basel Art School and the Swiss Institute, New York. Awards and residencies include Prix Ehinger, Basel (2001); Kuratorium des Kantons Aargau in Berlin and IAAB, CMS Stiftung, Basel in Edinburgh (1999).
